The Tube Dress

This is the simplest of garments to make as it is just a rectangle of fabric wide enough to go round your body and long enough to reach the ground when pinned on your shoulders.

Making Up
To work out how much fabric you need take the measurement of the widest part of your body and add on 50cm . Buy a piece of fabric this long by 60"/150cm wide.
The selvedge edges of your fabric will form the top and bottom of the tube dress. Fold your fabric in half and stitch the two cut edges together.

Finishing

Unless you are going to use the dress to demonstrate Anglo-Saxon sewing techniques to the general public at events, I see no reason why you shouldn't use a machine on any seam that won't show whilst wearing.
The edge that is going to be pinned could be decorated with a tablet-woven band, plaits or fringes.
