Costumed Guides / Interpreters / Characters

   While castles and other sites of interest may hold their own fascination, hiring a costumed guide to interact with the public can sometimes add an unexpected spark of life!
      I can provide 1 male and 1 female costumed guide for your event or attraction, in period costume ranging from 'Dark-Age' to Medieval individuals.
      We can be available to talk to the public either about our clothing, your event or attraction or any aspect of the period of history in question. We can bring small hand-held props with us to engage the public in an activity if this is required, or we can tell stories and/or read riddles.
   Our approach is not to take on a 'character', but to remain ourselves. This gives us greater scope for answering questions from the public as we can explain the historical and archaeological evidence behind our answers. It can be off-putting to ask a question and be faced with what appears to be a lack of knowledge, i.e. 'I don't know what that is.'.
     Between us, Glenn and I have 21 years experience (as re-enactors) in speaking to the general public about all aspects of the periods of history we have portrayed. We have attended both large and small events, from one or two people at a visitor attraction to many hundreds at a specially organised historical event.
    Should you wish us to conduct a guided tour, we are prepared to work with you to learn as much about your attraction as we can. For example, we have worked with the manager and staff of the West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village, to provide their guided tours, (see picture above) - so that as well as promoting their site, we can answer questions from the public about life in Anglo-Saxon times.

At present the following costumed guides are available: 5th/6th Century Anglian or Saxon Couple Middle Saxon Couple (7th-9th century) Anglo-Saxon Couple of the 10th/11th century (rich & poor) 10th Century Viking Noblewoman 12th Century Norman Noblewoman Lady Margaret de Walsoken (1349) and a 14th Century Nobleman Yorkist Lady of the Court of Edward IV (15th Century) 15th Century Couple
Small props available: drop spinning/sewing, board games, stories, trollen (Viking braiding)
Charges: Male and Female - £10 per hour Female only - £6 per hour minimum charge of £25; minimum 3 hours, maximum 8 hours work
Mileage and Travel Costs also apply

Bookings taken 14 days in advance. On receipt of your request I will issue a proposal document which includes my terms and conditions for provision of Services.
